PUNE Update: 6th January

RELIEF efforts have picked up momentum here as elsewhere in India.

- The Indian Medical Association has sent a team of doctors and is closely involved with relief activities in Tamil Nadu.

- Maitri is about to send out truckloads of food material, water and selected clothing to the affected areas of Nagapattinam.

- Rotary Club of Riverside, Pune is involved with aid and volunteer efforts in the affected areas of Pondicherry.

- The Indian Red Cross Society's local team of doctors has reached Kerala's affected areas and is working there.

- B J Medical College, Pune is sending a team of qualified doctors to aid relief operations.



NEEDS that are continuous and have to be met consistently are:

- Volunteer doctors / trained paramedics / Tamil & Malayalam speaking psychologists and child counsellors.

- Volunteers for 10-15 days who can contact the Madras NGO Coordination cell directly and reach the affected areas after speaking to the Relief Effort Coordinators.

- A communication / public relations person for the Media cell's coordination at Chennai - for being a part of this unit and helping to prepare proposals for Indian and International grant-making organisations, trusts and foundations; and develop appeals/ reports. - Medicines as being put up by the Red Cross and various aid agencies on this website.

- Basic food like rice, dal, dry milk powder and baby food packets / tins and mineral (drinking) water.
