After the initial shock and the painstaking process of immediate rescue and relief we are in the process of rebuilding the lives of lakhs of victims of the tsunami waves. In the district of Cuddalore alone, a population of 99704, have been affected. 608 victims lost their lives and 12000 houses have been damaged. The livelihood of the fishermen community is another pressing issue at hand, as we have lost 4500 registered boats/ catamarans to the tsunami disaster, the loss to unregistered boats is much more. The immediate challenge before us is to rehabilitate 15000 active fishermen in the District.

We require tremendous participation from the civil society in this regard. As on date we have 3500 re-inforced plastic boats with outboard motors and gill nets. One such boat costs 1,50,000 and can aid 3 active fishermen. It is my appeal to assist us by the way of boats, fishing accessories and houses.
