An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.9 occurred about 4 miles north of Fontana. It struck at 1:22 a.m. Local time on March 9, 2008. An aftershock measuring 3.1 occurred about a minute later.
A quake of this size is not expected to cause damage or injuries. It was widely felt throughout the Inland Empire, Riverside and parts of Los Angeles and Orange counties.
Quakes in this area are not uncommon. A 4.4 in January of 2005 was preceded by several smaller foreshocks.
